Buvette Review

Buvette nyc

I recently revisited one of my favorite brunch places, and I’m happy to say that it did not disappoint. Buvette, a small French bistro located in the West Village, is one of three locations across the globe (the other two being in Paris and Tokyo). If you go during peak brunch hours on Saturday or Sunday, expect to wait up to an hour for a table. But let me tell you, it is worth the wait!

My favorite dish on the menu is the waffle sandwich. It’s basically a fancy bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich, but as its name suggests, it’s made with a Belgium waffle instead of bread. A generous drizzle of syrup helps bring out the sweet and savory flavor of the sandwich. It’s filling enough to leave you satisfied, but light enough that you’ll have enough room to split another dish on the menu with a friend if you really want to. If you choose to go this route, I recommend the Cr’Q Madame (classic ham, gruyére, & sunny-side egg) or the Saumon Fumé (eggs & smoked salmon with crème fraîche & capers). The eggs in the Saumon Fumé are not your typical scrambled eggs: they’re steamed, which may not be for everyone, but if you like your eggs light and fluffy, then there’s a good chance you won’t be disappointed.

I’m a sucker for a good cup of coffee, and that includes a cappuccino every now and then. It’s not much a surprise that a French café has good coffee, but I really enjoy the coffee at Buvette. I typically end up ordering two cappuccinos because they’re so good. In true brunch fashion, you can also order cocktails, but I can’t say much about them because I just find it too hard to pass up those cappuccinos.

You can learn more about Buvette on their website. The space is small and cozy, so I wouldn’t necessarily recommend bringing a huge group here, however, it’s a great place to grab brunch with a few friends. I’m a creature of habit, but one day I vow to try everything on the menu and pop in during the evening hours to try their dinner menu. But until then, I’ll continue to wake every Saturday and Sunday morning with visions of Belgium waffle sandwiches dancing in my head.
